Jubilee Grapevine

Jubilee Grapevine is a collection of articles written by members and others associated with the Movement. It aims to keep members informed about political and social justice issues, as well as what’s happening within the National Movement, Area Councils and Branches. There are often reports about future and past events that are of interest to members. Beginning with the Spring 2004 issue, Jubilee Grapevine will incorporate the Friends’ Newsletter.

Jubilee Grapevine is available as a printed magazine by subscription, as pdf files, and online.

(Please note: ASCM is currently seeking an Editorial Team is finalised. Interested in assisting? Click here for more information.)

In the year of Jubilee, the grapevines will grow wild and the land will rest and rejuvenate. The slaves will be freed, the poor will be returned to their land, and everyone will have enough.

Jesus announced himself sent to proclaim good news to the afflicted, sight for the blind, freedom for captives and a year of favour—a Jubilee—from the Lord, and declared: I am the vine; you are the branches.

Leviticus 25, Luke 4:16-30, John 15:1-17

Robin Boyd's The Witness to Australian Student Christian Movement

What happened to the Student Christian Movement in the 1960s and 1970s?
Why did it go into a steep decline and cease to be the force it had been?

The Student Christian Movement was a large wonderful vibrant community where students could ask any questions, access the best resources, and find their way into, or more deeply into, the life of the Church. It encouraged them to offer themselves to God and endeavour to carry out God's mission in the world. But at a critical period, the SCM suffered division, struggled and perhaps went astray; its vision of mission and unity, justice and peace passed to successor organizations. The question is, why?

Robin Boyd examines the story of "the SCM tradition": as it began and developed; as it wrestled with the challenge of being Christian in the academic world - its own special mission field; and as it has sought to recover its roots and face the future with hope.
