Email lists

There are few opportunities for face-to-face meetings between SCMers in different states, therefore, one of the major means of communication within ASCM is the e-mail lists. We do have a few national contacts too, to keep everything from falling into chaos.

We currently have five national lists:

• National: The former Chat and Policy lists have been merged into create a single list called the National list. Conversations on the list range from news of upcoming events, to social justice issues, to personal news from members.

• Executive: The Executive have their own list for discussions pertaining to the organisation and ongoing business of the movement itself.

• Conference: The National Conference committee and attendees have access to join the Conference list to provide details on upcoming events.

• Friends: A group for Friends (graduates, University Chaplains, former members and those who wish they'd been members), publicises activities, articles and coming events of interest to friends and allow the opportunity for discussion amongst list members. Several SCMers no longer living in Australia are members and we have members in Australia who were SCMers in other countries.

• Crux: A mailing list that provides a space for the discussion of issues of sexuality, spirituality, faith and social justice. It has particular interests in spirituality and the body, queer perspectives on liberation theologies, and issues in finding acceptance within the church and the wider community.

and five state lists:

• ACT: This list is hosted on ANU's email list server. You can subscribe by visiting http://mailman.anu.edu.au/mailman/listinfo/anu-scm (External link - opens in new window) and follow the instructions to join.
• Qld: This list is managed by the Qld Area Council, contact Ray Barraclough to join.
• NSW: This list is hosted on Google Groups. You can subscribe by visiting http://groups.google.com/group/ascm-nsw (External link - opens in new window).
• Vic: This list is hosted on Google Groups. You can subscribe by visiting http://groups.google.com/group/ascm-vic (External link - opens in new window).

The ASCM discourages the posting of e-mail petitions to the lists. E-mail petitions are often out of date, and disregarded by the recipients. Instead, we encourage people to pass on information regarding useful websites, and e-mails that call for people to write letters of protest.
