Area Councils are the link between Branches and the National
Movement. Most state and territories have an Area Council which is
responsible for the life of ASCM in that state. Their activities include
supporting existing branches, starting new branches, and fundraising. A
representative is appointed by each Area Council, and they report to the
Executive Meetings on the activities in their state.
There are currently branches at:
- Australian Capital Territory
(Australian National University and occasional events at other
universities)
- New South Wales (Currently
there are no university based branches but there is an active group
of senior friends and post grad students who meet several times each
year)
- Queensland (Australian Catholic
University and other intercampus events)
- Victoria (Melbourne University and
Victoria University)
- Western Australia (University of Western Australia and
Murdoch University, and a number of off-campus activities for students and
young workers)
There are also active Friends in most of the other states and
territories. So if you’re interested, but there’s no branch near you,
don’t despair. Contacts for for your local area can be found
here, so go find out what’s
happening!
