WSCF Asia-Pacific Human Rights Workshop

WSCF Asia Pacific will be holding a Human Rights workshop in June in Bogor, West Java, Indonesia. The focus will be on migration and human trafficking. ASCM can send one delegate to the conference.  I've copied the aims of the workshop and the selection criteria below. You may notice that we've been asked to nominate a male student this year (as we sent a female student last year), but all applications are welcome. The concept paper and application form are also attached.

It's a great opportunity to learn about and get more involved in this issues on an Asia-wide level, so do think about applying. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or would like further information.

I look forward to receiving your applications by Friday 2nd May!

Please contact Eloise Wright to apply by emailing wscflo.at.ascm.org.au.

Jubilee Grapevine - seeking editorial team

We are seeking a person or a team to take on the editing of our national magazine 'Jubilee Grapevine' (JG). For those of you who are not familiar with it, JG is a magazine of articles and other reflections by students and friends of the ASCM. It has been in an A4 black & white format, 32 or 36 pages per issue. Back-copies are available at this website or we can mail you one.

ASCM aims to produce JG three times each year. As there has been no editor found since Clare resigned the position in April, there have been no more JGs this year. At the General Committee meetings in Perth in July it was agreed to appeal for an editor or editorial team, in the hope that the magazine can be kept alive. If we are to get an edition printed in time for Orientation Days next year, we need to act NOW to get that underway. O-day editions need to be in the mail the first week in February to reach O-days in all states.

Robin Boyd's The Witness to Australian Student Christian Movement Robin Boyd's The Witness to Australian Student
Christian Movement

What happened to the Student Christian Movement in the 1960s and 1970s?
Why did it go into a steep decline and cease to be the force it had been?

The Student Christian Movement was a large wonderful vibrant community where students could ask any questions, access the best resources, and find their way into, or more deeply into, the life of the Church. It encouraged them to offer themselves to God and endeavour to carry out God's mission in the world. But at a critical period, the SCM suffered division, struggled and perhaps went astray; its vision of mission and unity, justice and peace passed to successor organizations. The question is, why?

Robin Boyd examines the story of "the SCM tradition": as it began and developed; as it wrestled with the challenge of being Christian in the academic world - its own special mission field; and as it has sought to recover its roots and face the future with hope.
